REDLANDERS can celebrate World Wetlands Day on February 2 by going for a paddle in their canoe or kayak at the beach at GJ Walter Park.

Organised by Redlands2030, the event celebrates the beautiful Redlands Coast wetlands.

It will run from 7am to 9am and for those who would rather not paddle, there is a breakfast sausage sizzle in the park behind the Grand View Hotel.

“It’s a great opportunity to remind everyone how important these wetlands are to the health of Moreton Bay, including the migratory birds that depend on them and the aquatic life we treasure,” Redlands2030 president Steve MacDonald said.

“The Ramsar Convention on Wetlands focuses attention every year on important global wetlands sites, such as Toondah Harbour and Moreton Bay, to demonstrate the importance of their preservation.”

The area is part of the proposed $1.3 billion Toondah Harbour redevelopment which will include a marina and 3600 units.
